Neither monitor wins outright. The ProArt Display PA329CV leads on brightness (350 nits vs 250), horizontal resolution (3840 pixels vs 1920) and screen size (32 inches vs 23.8). The VP249QGR leads on refresh rate (144Hz vs 60Hz) and response time (1ms vs 5ms), though ASUS measures those two response times differently. If you care most about sharpness and screen area, look at the PA329CV. If smooth motion matters more, look at the VP249QGR.
Condition:
- Brightness is the typical figure for both monitors (350 nits for the PA329CV, 250 for the VP249QGR), not a peak value.
- Refresh rate is the maximum each monitor supports: 60Hz for the PA329CV, 144Hz for the VP249QGR.
- The two response times are measured differently. The PA329CV's 5ms is gray-to-gray (GTG), and the VP249QGR's 1ms is MPRT.
- Screen size is the panel's diagonal in inches: 32 for the PA329CV, 23.8 for the VP249QGR.

What each number means
Brightness
Both numbers are typical ratings, not peak output. They describe what the panel normally runs at, not how bright it gets in a burst.
Max refresh rate
This is the ceiling. You only get the top figure if your source actually sends frames that fast.
Horizontal resolution
This counts pixels across the screen. It says nothing about color or panel quality.
Response time
GTG and MPRT measure different things. The 5ms and 1ms figures come from different methods, so the gap doesn't compare like with like.
Screen size
Size is the diagonal. It tells you how big the picture is, not how much desk space the stand takes up.
The trade-off
The PA329CV's big numbers hide a slower screen: it's 3840 pixels wide but tops out at 60Hz. The VP249QGR is only 1920 pixels wide and goes up to 144Hz.
